SUMMARY:A Brief History of Medicare and Audiology and Everything Else: Why Is It So Hard To Change Anything?
DESCRIPTION:In this lecture\, Angela Loavenbruck\, EdD\, will trace the passage of the Medicare Law in 1965 with the developments in the profession of audiology as well as current attempts to make changes to the law. \nVirtual Education Series Speaker\n \nAngela Loavenbruck\, EdD \nAngela Loavenbruck\, EdD was in private practice in Rockland County\, New York\, from 1976-2020. She is the author of numerous articles and\, along with Jane Madell\, PhD\, wrote the first textbook about hearing aid dispensing for audiologists. Dr. Loavenbruck received a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College\, Columbia University. She went on to serve as the Director of Audiology Clinic at Teachers College and Associate Professor for that program. \n  \nDr. Loavenbruck has served on many boards and committees for several state and national organizations. She served has served as president for the American Academy of Audiology and the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association as well as serving as the first chair for the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education. \nDr. Loavenbruck has been a prominent figure in the development of standards and ethics for the audiology profession\, and in lobbying for direct access to professional audiology services for Medicare patients. Most recently\, in 2019\, Dr. Loavenbruck was awarded the Honors of the Academy by the American Academy of Audiology for her work on behalf of audiologists and individuals with hearing impairment. \nRegister Now
