2015-2016 Humanitarian Committee
The SAA Humanitarian Committee took on several challenges this year. At the start of the term, we gathered information from all the -- in a nationwide survey so that now we know, more than ever, about humanitarian opportunities available to students. We have continued collaboration with students and Special Olympics Healthy Hearing (SOHH). Our relationship has become a strong one this year and we will continue to build it in the future. Part of this relationship will involve gathering data from chapters to better help SOHH serve students and the athletes participating in the events.
Together as a committee we put together a few new events for students. The first event was a celebration of Humanitarian Day, in conjunction with WHO World Hearing Day. We invited chapters from all around the country to participate in activities such as social media campaigns, presentations to other university groups about hearing loss, public hearing conservation events in schools and at sporting events, and the distribution of earplugs and educational materials regarding hearing loss. We appreciate all who participated. The committee also put on a SOHH Q&A event session at AudiologyNOW!2016. Students were able to openly discuss experiences with SOHH and hear about the Special Olympics World Games.
