2015-2016 SAA Media Committee
Throughout this past year, the Media Committee has been committed to keeping the SAA community up to date on current events, local chapter initiatives, and articles written by and for students. This year, four editions of SAAy Anything, the SAA electronic newsletter, were successfully distributed to members. Articles in this newsletter include “So You Want to be a _________ Audiologist” to highlight various outlets and paths within audiology, “PhD Spotlight” to show what is happening in the research side of audiology, and various articles written by the SAA Board of Directors, committee volunteers, advisors, and the SAA president. The Media Committee also introduced a new article segment into SAAy Anything titled “Committee Member Spotlight” to give thanks to some of the hard working students who volunteer their time to work on one of the nine SAA committees. The Media Committee also collaborated with the Board of Directors to publish the SAA Spotlight article in each issue of Audiology Today, with topics ranging from how to become more involved with research within audiology to tips on how to handle life as an extern and after graduate. Additionally, the Media Committee has been collecting and publishing Chapter Updates to promote connections between chapters by providing local chapter updates and highlights. These updates have been shared in SAAy Anything, published on the SAA website, and have also been highlighted on social media.
New endeavors of the Media Committee this past year included implementing the first ever social media challenge to raise awareness of and promote the SAA Facebook and Twitter accounts. Six winners were selected during this time! Additionally, at AudiologyNOW! 2016, the Media Committee used the Periscope App in order to keep students attending the conference up to speed on the happenings of that day as well as to provide those unable to attend the conference a more realistic experience of the happenings throughout the week. The SAA social media accounts provided followers with the most current news in audiology and reached a record number of followers!
