Name: Sarah Pupa
University: University of Pittsburgh
Year in Program: Fourth Year
Committee: Education Committee

Why did you decide to become an SAA committee volunteer?
I decided to volunteer with the SAA because I wanted to be more involved with the American Academy of Audiology. At the University of Pittsburgh, all our faculty members, clinical instructors, and alumni are very involved with the Academy. They attend conferences, present research, and/or serve on committees throughout the year. They inspired me to get more involved and help better our profession. The best way to see change is through volunteering and influencing it yourself. I am really looking forward to seeing what the Education Committee accomplishes this year together!

What are you most excited to contribute to your committee?
I am so excited to continue working on our Externship Blog Series which is posted on the SAA Blog! During this time of uncertainty, we want to give students tips each month to help prepare them for their externship year, a new phase in their audiological career!

Within the audiology profession, what are your primary interests?
My clinical and research interests include working with children with comorbidities and special needs, interdisciplinary care, and increasing the accessibility and visibility of audiology services.

Please tell us one fun fact about yourself.
I spent many of my summers growing up volunteering at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City, NC, and absolutely love sea turtles!
