Name: Emily Venskytis
University: Arizona State University
Year in Program: Fourth
Externship Placement: Nemours/AI duPont Hospital for Children
Hometown: West Chester, PA
Clinical/research interest: I love all aspects of pediatric audiology! I particularly enjoy cochlear implants and auditory evoked potentials. I am also interested in clinical research in unilateral hearing loss and cochlear implants.
1. Where do you hope to see yourself in five years?
In five years I hope to be working as a pediatric audiologist at a children’s hospital, as a member of a variety of clinical and interdisciplinary teams with specialty certification. I also intend to participate in and coordinate clinical research projects.
2. What are your goals for the Programs Committee?
I plan to coordinate some awesome events for students at the AudiologyNOW! Conference in Indianapolis from April 5-8! This includes fun events we already know such as the SAA Mix and Mingle, t-shirt contest, and Exhibit Hall Scavenger Hunt. Additionally, I am working on some new and exciting hands-on workshops that you won’t want to miss!
3. What advice would you give to current AuD students?
My best advice is to get involved with volunteer work, professional issues, and student organizations that you are interested in! Working with other students, meeting professionals in our field, and getting involved in the issues you care about is the best thing you can do as a student! Also, it is always good to remember that the audiology community is small!
4. Tell us a fun fact about you!
I LOVE hiking and kayaking! I think being outside and enjoying nature is the best break from stress.
What is the best way that students can reach you?
