Name: Rachel Fryatt
University: University of Pittsburgh
Year in Program: Third Year
Committee: Communications Committee

Why did you decide to become an SAA committee volunteer?
I decided to join a committee after attending the annual AAA Conference during my first year of grad school. I really enjoyed learning about the resources available to audiology students through SAA, and I knew I wanted to play a part in the organization. Last year, I was on the Fundraising Committee, which is now the Development Committee. I worked on planning Cheers for Ears and other fundraising events. I had such a great experience with that committee that I wanted to join another committee for this year! I’ve had a great time learning about the national organization and other AuD programs, and I have met some incredible people through this involvement.

What do your responsibilities include within your committee?
My responsibility in the Communications Committee includes collecting and revising articles submitted for the Audiology Today magazine. I also revise and edit submissions for the SAAy Anything E-Newsletter and Chapter Chatter, and I’m looking forward to working with the committee on the upcoming SAA Blog! The committee also works on a multitude of tasks, including communication between committees and social media posts.

Within the field of audiology, what are your primary interests?
I have a wide range of interests in audiology, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to learn so much about so many topics! As a professional, I hope to provide a variety of services to a diverse patient population.  I have a special interest in disparities in hearing healthcare among vulnerable populations and community-based services due to my experience in outreach services in Pittsburgh.
