The national Student Academy of Audiology offers a range of resources for students that are easily accessible through our website. One of the most popular resources for graduate students is scholarships. Through the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF), there are several scholarship opportunities offered to students every year. These scholarships range from awards for excellent clinical practice to research funding. I highly recommend checking out all the available opportunities. Applications recently opened for six scholarship programs, including a new scholarship for students interested in pursuing a career in private practice.
For students who may be transitioning to their externship year or their first year as a professional, we have resources for you all as well. Under the Career Resources tab, you can find information regarding how to structure your resume, websites for job and externship opportunities, and more. Transitions can be an overwhelming time, and these resources are there to provide guidance to assist with the frequently requested items from employers and preceptors for applications. For undergraduate students, the national SAA also offers resources regarding how to apply to graduate programs and how to structure your personal statement. I recommend looking through these resources early so you can be prepared to put together your graduate application packets in a timely manner.
If you would like to get involved with the national SAA, there are also resources to guide you through that process as well. All volunteers for the national SAA must be national SAA members. Membership is open for undergraduate students, and graduate and international students who are enrolled in an audiology program. Once you are a national SAA member, you are able to apply to become a volunteer for any of our committees. The national SAA committees are the source for many of the resources that we offer, such as the externship survey information, programming events like the Virtual Education Series, and our blog posts that cover a wide variety of topics. If you are looking for peer-reviewed articles, that is another resource that is available through the national SAA.
If there is a resource you are looking for that we do not offer, we are open to suggestions! You can email jannahines.saa@gmail.com with any suggestions.
