What are your specific interests in audiology? What are your professional goals related to these interests?
My specific interests in audiology are pediatric audiology and the technological aspects of hearing instruments. My professional goal is to become a pediatric audiologist and treat children with the earliest interventions possible. I am also interested in learning more about how to troubleshoot hearing aids, and understanding the technology of it so that I can manually fix them myself without sending them out for repair.
Have you previously volunteered with the SAA?
I am currently serving my local university chapter as SAA treasurer. For this position, I am responsible for making sure we have the funds for the activities we plan. I am also in charge of making sure we are within our budget. Our board organized a volunteer opportunity at the Day for Children at our university, where we were the representatives of the audiology program and taught children what our profession is.
Aside from the SAA, what other relevant volunteer experiences do you have?
I was the president of our local youth organization called KCYL for a year and then joined the national board (KCYLNA) as the west coast RVP. As the local president, we organized events for the local youth to be more involved with our community. As a national board, we hosted three large events (400 young people at two events and more than 1,000 young people at the last event) in various cities across America. This was to bring the youth of our communities together and have larger gatherings.
I was also the vice president of LMU’s South Asian Student Association. We hosted events to share our culture with the students of our university, including large Diwali and Holi events.
