Name: Lily Rollins
University: The University of Texas at Dallas
Year in Program: Second Year
Committee: Humanitarian Committee
Why did you decide to become an SAA committee volunteer?
I’ve always liked participating in volunteer events that come my way. When I started graduate school, my program provided opportunities to give community screenings and even go to South Africa and give audiology aid. I loved being able to put my skills to use in a humanitarian setting, and I knew this was something I wanted to continue. I joined the Humanitarian Committee so I could learn more ways to use my audiology knowledge to volunteer and help others beyond the clinic setting. I also love being part of SAA as a means to communicate with other students across the U.S. and to share our experiences and resources.
What are you most excited to contribute to your committee?
I’m excited to bring awareness to other students about the different ways we can get involved in volunteer work. I’m also leading the Special Olympics Healthy Hearing Subcommittee, and after learning a lot about the organization, I’m excited to get others around me involved and even volunteer myself!
Within the field of audiology, what are your primary interests?
Adult diagnostics, hospital-settings, tinnitus, private practice, and hearing aids. Anything with adults, really!
Fun fact about yourself?
When I’m not studying, I’m teaching group fitness classes at my local gym!
