Although summer break is a thing of the past in most AuD programs, summertime does bring a change of pace compared to the rest of the academic school year. For some students, summer semester means a reduction in class work and an increase in clinic experience; for other students, summer semester is a chance to dive into a research lab and work on a capstone project. For the national Student Academy of Audiology (SAA), summertime brings changes as it starts the new term!
The SAA 2022-2023 term officially starts on July 1, 2022. We are so excited to welcome the new SAA Board of Directors as they continue some of the ongoing projects the SAA committees have and begin some new projects themselves. To get an idea of what’s in store for the new SAA Board, let’s take a look at some of the activities from the previous board:
- The SAA programs committee created student-focused programming and events for the first in-person annual Academy conference and SAA Conference in 2 years! It had a great turnout.
- The chapter relations committee hosted a smooth Chapter Renewal process this year. It was wonderful to see so many chapters renew for another year.
- The communications committee created the new SAA Instagram! Give it a follow if you haven’t done so already.
- The education committee hosted a series of Town Hall events where they were able to discuss hot topics in Audiology with local chapter leaders.
- The member relations committee looked at ways to reach out to undergraduate students and help find more aspiring audiology students! They also hosted a very important talk on mental health with AuD students!
- The public outreach committee launched a new tinnitus awareness campaign. They have many resources on our Facebook page available to share with your loved ones with tinnitus. Check out the SAA website to see what other activities we completed!
As you can see, we’ve accomplished so much during the 2021-2022 term. It has been an honor to serve alongside this wonderful Board and with amazing volunteers. And it has been an honor to serve this community of students.
I’d like to welcome the new SAA president, Alexis Leiderman, and the rest of the 2022-2023 SAA Board. It has been a pleasure to meet each of them and to know that the audiology student community is in great hands. I look forward to seeing what comes next for the SAA!

Sometimes it may feel like we do not have enough hours in the day to study, attend clinical placements, and have a social life. As a current fourth-year student, there have been periods throughout my graduate school career that…
