Job Search On the Mind?
I’m sitting here at work and one of our clinic’s externs is sitting next to me feverishly scrolling through job postings. A friend texts about a new fitness class. My email pings as a student I know asks a question about her CV for an externship application.
The calendar has changed to 2022 and we’re all thinking of our next step. If your next step includes job search and graduation, don’t reinvent the wheel! Make sure to plug into SAA’s many resources to make this next step as smooth as possible.
- Do your homework. The Academy provides results from its Compensation and Benefits Survey that summarize total compensation data for full-time and part-time audiologists. If you know the numbers before you job search, you’ll feel more prepared to assess your offers.
- Put your pen to the paper. As you begin to gather application materials, check out the Academy’s resume resources. This site includes common tips for creating your resume, outlines to get you started, and some concrete examples of completed resumes.
- Cross your t’s and dot your i’s. Did you know that SAA members have access to a free resume review service? Submit your application materials, including resume/curriculum vitae, cover letters, and thank-you notes for review!
- It’s “go time”. Now that you’re prepared, it’s time to find a job! Browse the Academy website to connect with HEARCareers, a year-round resource for open positions in audiology.
Here’s my final tip, but there is no website link for this one… don’t forget about your real-life resources! Your professors and preceptors have been in this spot before. They have the experience and they will be more than happy to talk you through concerns or give their own personal perspective. You’re not on this journey alone.
