Graduation and the New Professional – Now What?

This spring will bring a whole new class of audiology graduates into the profession. Congratulations! You have all worked so hard for this. With big new steps ahead of you, the Academy is here to help you transition from student to professional.

Hopefully, being a part of the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) has been a positive experience of community and resources. Now, as a graduate, the American Academy of Audiology (the Academy) is here to provide the same support. First, become a member (or Fellow Up! for a discounted membership rate if you are a current SAA member), then start exploring:

  • Volunteer/ Join a Committee: If you enjoyed participating in SAA committees or activities, you’ll be excited to hear similar opportunities exist within the Academy. It’s never too early to start volunteering!
  • Journals and Publications: Were you an avid reader of SAAy Anything or other SAA publications? No worries – the Academy has you covered with Audiology Today, the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology, and more!
  • Maintain Best Practices: One new aspect of graduating is practicing without the oversight of a preceptor. As you navigate this change, make sure to explore the Academy’s practice guidelines and standards to keep your patient care relevant.

Congratulations class of 2023 – I am proud to call each of you my colleague!

Sarah Ostlie, AuD, CH-AP (she/her)

No More Chills: Conquer the Praxis with Confidence

By Hector Smith-Sanchez “Praxis.” For many audiology students, this word has sent chills down our spines since we started our programs. The Praxis is one of the last steps prior to stepping into the real world as a clinician. We can all agree this test can be pretty intimidating. However, let this article help ease…

Practice Makes Praxis

By Marissa Gallan Just hearing the word “Praxis” can make even the most confident audiology student let out a nervous laugh. The Praxis is one of the final checkboxes on the list of requirements to become a licensed clinician. It marks the end of academic coursework and serves as a final test of all the…
