The national Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) has been a pivotal resource for me and so many of my colleagues. It’s connected me with a research mentor, supported me through scholarship applications, and given me tons of meaningful ways to get involved through service and volunteering. National SAA has played a significant role in my professional growth, and I am excited to share all the many opportunities the organization has to offer.
For starters, the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAA Foundation) offers eight scholarships opportunities that provide a combined total of $73,000 in funding. These opportunities support students with diverse clinical and research interests and from underrepresented backgrounds, helping them succeed while recognizing their exceptional accomplishments. Each scholarship is made possible by generous sponsors who are deeply committed to empowering students to pursue their professional goals.
National SAA provides members with a variety of volunteer opportunities and give back to the profession. Each year, students are invited to help build and sustain the national organization by serving on one of seven committees. Committee roles range from helping organize student-focused education, to developing resources for audiology exam and externship preparation, to encouraging advocacy within our field. Keep an eye out for a call for volunteers later in the semester!
Finally, the national SAA and the Academy is an unparalleled place to network and find mentorship. Each national SAA committee is supported by dedicated committee of audiology professionals who are invested in mentoring students. The creativity, leadership, and passion of our student and professional volunteers inspire others to return year after year to learn, connect, and grow.
